Changing Your Smile and Your Life

When it comes to any kind of dentistry, even cosmetic dentistry, the team at Dental Arts of Rockland really does like to focus on how it can improve your health. But the truth is, the way your smile looks affects all aspects of your life from your confidence to your success and your social life. Of course, we all believe that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but people still do it––and in about 1/10th of a second! Studies prove it, and lots of articles have been written about it.

The most remarkable studies were done by Kelton Global, an independent research group for Invisalign clear braces and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. In these studies it was discovered:

  • Nearly one-third of Americans say the first aspect of someone’s face they typically notice is his or her teeth.
  • Nearly half of adults believe that a smile is the most memorable feature after first meeting someone—more so than the first thing a person says.
  • Fewer of us would be likely to remember a person’s clothes or the way he or she smelled after meeting for the first time.
  • People with a flawed smile are seen to be less attractive and less confident than those with perfect teeth.
  • Americans perceive those with straight teeth to be 45% more likely than those with crooked teeth to get a job when competing with someone who has a similar skill set and experience. They are also seen as 58% more likely to be successful, as well as 58% more likely to be wealthy.
  • People with straight teeth are seen as 57% more likely than those with crooked teeth to get a date based on their picture alone.
  • Those with straight teeth are more likely to be seen as happy, more likely to be viewed as being healthy, and more likely to be perceived as smart.
  • Nearly three in four Americans would be more likely to trust someone with a nice smile than someone with a good job, outfit, or car.
  • Close to three in five Americans would rather have a nice smile than clear skin.
  • Nearly half of Americans think a person’s smile can defy aging’s effects while eyes come in a distant second.

Pretty amazing right? If your teeth aren’t what you would like them to be, don’t be discouraged.
